Press Release: Human Rights Review Panel

The Human Rights Review Panel (HRRP) held a session which was devoted to its outreach program on 19 and 20 July, 2010.

In this regard the HRRP held regional briefing session with NGOs, representatives of civil society, representatives of municipalities, youth organizations and KPS in Gjilan/Gnjilane, Ferizaj/Uroševac, Prizren, Pejë/Peć and Mitrovicë/Mitrovica.

The HRRP briefed the participants on its mandate and operations to date. This was followed by a discussion, inter alia, on the population’s perceptions and expectations of the HRRP. The participants emphasized the importance of the independence of the HRRP as well as the necessity for transparency in its operations and the need for the publication of its findings and recommendations.

In addition, the presiding member of the HRRP, Mr. Antonio Balsamo, conducted interviews with Radio Dukagjini and Zeri newspaper on 20 July 2010. 

Both UNMIK and KFOR radios will commence the broadcasting of the advertisements for the HRRP later in July 2010 and Zeri newspaper already published an article on the HRRP in June 2010.

The HRRP will organize its next session from 13 to 15 September in Prishtinë/Priština.

The Human Rights Review Panel (HRRP) for EULEX Kosovo, as an independent accountability mechanism for alleged violations of human rights, will review complaints from any person claiming to be the victim of human rights violations by EULEX Kosovo in the conduct of its executive mandate. The HRRP is not a judicial or disciplinary body. The mechanism will solely look into whether a violation of human rights occurred or not and formulate recommendations for remedial action. The HRRP is independent in the exercise of its functions which it will perform with impartiality and integrity.
